We runners are all about goal setting. That’s why this time of year is so great.
I’ve looked back at 2009 and already have a pretty clear idea in my mind what I hope to accomplish in 2010, running-wise that is. Who cares about all that other stuff, right?
When setting your goals for the coming year, I’d say the first thing you want to do is look back, not ahead. What did you accomplish this year? Or, more importantly, what didn’t you accomplish?
And then think big. Think of some times or races that you’d like to run in your lifetime. Can you fit any of those into 2010?
That’s about it. Pretty easy. Of course, taking the steps and putting in the work to accomplish those goals is the hard part. Saying you want to run a 100K is the easy part. Not that I’d ever say that.
Here are some of my goals for 2010 in order of importance to me:
- PR in the 10K.
- Think about running the Syttende Mai in 2011. Not much of a goal, I know.
- Put in 2,000+ miles for the year.
- More hill training!
- Run a summer evening race.
- Run at WTC track meet or two.
- PR in the 10-mile (Waunafest anyone?).
- Don’t fall on the ice.
- Run a marathon under 2:50 (three failed attempts so far!).
Here’s to a great 2010. Happy New Years everyone!
