Those of you running the Boston Marathon (53 runners from Madison are registered!) you may already have begun worrying and fretting about the race. Well, you’re not alone!
As the race approaches, I wonder if I did enough long runs, too many long runs, did I peak at the right time, should I have done more underwater running? Okay, I didn’t do any underwater running but these are the things we think about.
One thing that we try not to think about is the fact that no matter how well we train, it might all go down the drain on race day when we wake up and it’s 80 degrees at 5 am with 98 percent humidity with 50 mile per hour wind gusts. Luckily, I don’t think we have to worry about extreme heat at Boston. However, a few years ago the race was almost canceled due to a Nor’easter, which, apparently, is a dangerous combination of wind, precipitation, and Red Sox fans.
The Boston Marathon is still 11 days away but there are weather Web sites that take the risk to predict that far into the future. One of the more accurate and trusted of these long range weather sites is AccuWeather.com.
So, for Boston on April 19, 2010, the day of the Boston marathon, AccuWeather.com is forecasting that it will be…are you ready…54 degrees and sunny!!!!
Yeah, that would be awesome. We’ll see.
